Investing in our community
Mentoring the children in the community
When it comes to community service, we don't just talk the talk. We walk the walk.
We give paid time off to colleagues who want to volunteer in the community. In 2008, 97% of Barclaycard US colleagues took us up on this offer at least once, logging over 28,000 volunteer hours.
We match all of our colleagues' fundraising efforts for their favorite charities. So far, that's added up to almost $400,000 in charity donations.
We make it easy to give to the United Way. In 2008, our colleagues gave almost $280,000 out of their own pockets.
Our community service is focused on the needs of children. How do we do it? By mentoring. Teaching. And most importantly, caring.

Teaching the children in the community

  • Over 300 Barclaycard US mentors have worked one-on-one with kids at East Side Charter School, which serves Delaware's most economically and socially at-risk children. We've committed $50,000 per year for the next three years to this award-winning program, which is the biggest in the state of Delaware.
  • Our colleagues teach a series of financial education courses at West End Neighborhood House and the YWCA, and mentor young adults starting businesses.
  • Last year over 1,000 children visited with 900 Barclaycard US colleagues who gave them a glimpse into the lives of working professionals, and teach them about saving money and setting goals.
